Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry gives Drs. Resop and Schrubbe a way to create a relaxing dental experience for fearful or anxious patients, and allow them to have successful, productive dental visits that result in great oral health. It also is a way to treat patients with severe gag reflexes and TMJ issues with more comfort.

Our dentists are members of the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation and have years of experience providing sedation dentistry to our patients. Your safety is our number-one concern.

At Brookfield Dental Care, we offer several types of sedation. The most effective—oral conscious sedation—provides a level of sedation that is very safe and predictable. With conscious sedation, you will remain awake throughout your procedure, but will be in a deep state of relaxation. You will be given a prescription pill which, taken about an hour before your appointment, will have you fully relaxed by the time you arrive at our office.

We also offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) for those in need of a little extra TLC. Nitrous oxide is the most frequently used method for easing mild to moderate anxiety. Recovery is quick so you can resume your normal activities immediately.

Preparing for Your Appointment

If you are about to undergo sedation dentistry, we recommend that you not eat for 12 hours before the appointment, and have a friend or family member drive you to and from the appointment. Take all medications as instructed before the appointment. Also, because of the sensitivity of our pulse oximeter—the device that monitors your heart rate, blood pressure, and blood oxygenation—we ask that you not wear nail polish.

If you’ve put off necessary dental procedures because of your fear of the dentist, sedation dentistry at Brookfield Dental Care can help. Contact our office to learn more about your sedation options!
